Political Parties

Another one of my favorite topics that we discussed in my AP Government class was Political Parties. I liked learning about the different roles and the importance that Political Parties have during elections. Before we discussed this topic in class, I used to think that the political party one identified themselves with, was simply a label. Now I know that there is so much more to them than I initially thought.  For example, one important role that political parties have during elections is to pick presidential candidates.

A political party must nominate candidates whom they believe will favor their policy, and prioritize their issues. This is an important duty, because the candidate they pick will be the face of their political party, and in a way be their representative. Furthermore, not only do political parties pick candidates, they must also coordinate campaigns. Political Parties must make it a point to make their candidate well know by the public, in order to increase the chances that more people will vote for their candidate. Nowadays, media such as the internet and television have made it easier for candidates to build their campaigns and take their case directly to the people without the aid of the party organization.

All in all, Political Parties are important during elections because they are picking candidates to be to next President of the United States for the next four years, and run campaigns to gain supporters for said candidate.
